Burst Pipe in Your NL Home: First 10 Minutes That Matter

Water everywhere? Exact first steps for Newfoundland homeowners: shutoff, power safety, photos for insurance, and when to call an emergency plumber.

A burst pipe is noisy, messy, and stressful. The first ten minutes decide how much damage you deal with later.

Do this immediately

  1. Shut the main water valve (usually near the meter or where the line enters the basement).
  2. Open a faucet at the lowest level to relieve pressure.
  3. If water is near electrical panels or baseboards, stay clear and shut power at the breaker only if you can do so safely from a dry area.
  4. Move furniture and put down towels / bins.
  5. Take quick photos for insurance once the flow is stopped.

Then call a plumber

We stabilize the leak, repair or replace the damaged section, and help you understand if freeze, corrosion, or a failed fitting caused it — useful for prevention and claims conversations.
